The activity, held at dawn on the beaches of Punta Chame, involved the release of newborn sea turtles, a symbolic act aimed at raising awareness about the importance of preserving the various species that nest along these white-sand shores. CIFI employees, joined by family and friends, actively participated in the event, reaffirming their commitment to sustainability, environmental protection, and respect for biodiversity.
“Participating in initiatives like this helps us better understand the tangible impact we have as a society and as individuals on our environment. At CIFI, we will continue to support the valuable awareness and conservation work carried out by Fundación Tortuguias in Panama,” said María Alejandra Veja, Senior ESG Officer at CIFI.
In addition to the turtle release, participants conducted a beach cleanup, collecting 578 kg of waste brought in by the previous night’s high tide. During the activity, the impact of pollution on marine life became evident with the discovery of the lifeless body of a roughly three-year-old turtle entangled in the plastic netting of a potato sack.
“Plastic poses a critical threat to sea turtles. From beach pollution to debris mistaken for food or causing entanglement, its impact is devastating. That’s why we urge the public to reduce consumption, recycle, and support initiatives that promote responsible management of this material,” stated Adriana Z. Moreno Acosta, Executive Director of Fundación Tortuguias.
Through Corporate Social Responsibility actions like this, CIFI contributes to the promotion of conservation values, environmental education, and community engagement, in line with its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
