Guayaquil, Ecuador, September 12, 2025 – IDB Invest and CIFI are financing the construction and operation of the first phase of Millennium Med, a third-level hospital sponsored by Grupo Campana in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The project aims to meet the growing demand for specialized medical services in the city and the country. The complex will offer more than 20 medical specialties, including oncology, cardiology, neurology, and traumatology, along with clinical support services and advanced technology in imaging diagnostics, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. This is the first healthcare project financed by IDB Invest in Ecuador.
The hospital will help improve access to high-quality healthcare services, alleviate the shortage of hospital beds, and reduce wait times for complex procedures. It is expected to serve both private patients and those referred from the public system, thereby strengthening the country’s complementary healthcare network. Hospital management will be handled by the international operator Grupo Eximio.
The transaction includes a total loan of US$66.6 million, with a US$38.6 million contribution from IDB Invest over 15 years. The remaining US$28 million will be mobilized through CIFI and its Sustainable Infrastructure Debt Fund (SIDF), reaffirming IDB Invest’s role as a catalyst for private resources in essential infrastructure under its “Originate to Share” model. The total cost of the project’s first phase involves an investment of US$105 million.
Beyond financing, IDB Invest will support the adoption of best environmental and social practices, the implementation of a corporate governance plan to strengthen transparency and project management, and the achievement of EDGE certification for sustainable construction, which promotes efficient use of water and energy.
