The project consists of a gas-powered thermal plant with long-term contracts for the provision of 120.65MW of firm capacity to the Guatemalan electricity system. Likewise, the plant will dedicate a capacity of 22MW to the Mexican electrical system.

Huinala is located close to Monterrey in a primer location with direct access to key infrastructure and resources. Huinala swaps electricity generated in northeastern Mexico (Monterrey) for electricity supplied at the southern Mexico- Guatemala border.
