Fabio Arciniegas
Chief Operating Officer
Fabio Arciniegas is a seasoned financial executive with over 30 years of experience across banking, infrastructure, energy, and manufacturing. As Chief Operating Officer at CIFI, he oversees comprehensive risk management, including credit, market, operational, liquidity, reputational, compliance, and legal risks, while also managing distressed assets and back-office operations. Fabio is a member of CIFI’s Eligibilty, Asset and Liability, and Credit Committees and serves as secretary of the Board of Director's Risk Committee.
Before joining CIFI in 2016, Fabio held senior leadership roles across Latin America. At BICSA Panama, he served as Chief Credit Officer, overseeing credit strategy across the region and leading credit committees for a USD 1.7 billion portfolio. He also played a key role in the implementation of SAP as a core banking system and served on the board of BICSA Valores. Earlier in his career, Fabio was Chief Risk Officer (interim) at the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), where he implemented RAROC, led Basel II initiatives, and advised on risk-related matters for public and private sector projects.
His diverse background also includes managing the reorganization of El Giral Electric Plant, as well as earlier roles in infrastructure consulting, data science, and financial advisory.
Fabio holds a PhD in Statistics and a Master’s in Operations Research and Infrastructure Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as well as a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia). He is a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and Project Management Professional (PMP). From 2012 to 2015, he was a member of the Risk Committee of the Panama Banking Association, contributing to regulatory frameworks aligned with Basel II.
