Vendor Reviews - Dabs.com

Dabs.com

I have been a customer of Dabs.com for quite sometime and I've always been very happy with their service.

You will be extremely hard pushed to find a vendor in the UK that stocks so many items as these guys, their product list is amazing and no matter what component you are thinking of buying I think you'll probably find it is available here. Not all items are ex-stock, with the exception of the most popular items you'll have anything from a 1-2 day to 2 week wait for stock but you'd have to be a mad computer vendor to buy in a lot of stock considering just how volatile computer component prices are.

One of the very best things about Dabs is just how much information they have on each item they sell. After you've found the item you are interested in just click on the "More Information" & "Features" buttons to see everything you could possibly want to know about the item, if you order something that is not compatible with your system then it really is your own fault.

Even though Dabs are a very big company they are very friendly when you have the need to contact them. Their technical support personnel are extremely knowledgeable and will give you plenty of tips in an attempt to get your new piece of hardware/software working. Unfortunately Dabs no longer like to give out any pre-purchase information. In the past I have sent an e-mail asking about compatibility between an item I am interested in and my system, they used to be happy to get into such a conversation now they will reply saying "We are unable to answer these kind of questions, please check with the manufacturer". I can kind of understand such a stance, you really cannot say for certain if an item you are selling will work and it is always best to check with people who already own the item or the manufacturer before you make such a "blind" purchase.

Dabs still offer a free 1-3 day delivery which is excellent, the majority of items that I order do arrive within this time with a lot arriving the next day which is really more than they are promising. However I have seen some items which Dabs claim are in stock take a lot longer than this 1-3 days. In these situations I am assuming the items are coming from one of their satellite warehouses without warning me. I have also ordered items that are in stock and then seen the order status not getting to "dispatched" before the end of the day, when you order something at 10:00am you really do expect them to be able to process your order and get it out to their courier before the end of the day and having to wait up to two days before something is dispatched is a little bit unacceptable.

One other problem that I experienced was for some reason my Switch card was not accepted for payment, this was obviously a glitch as there was plenty of money in the account. I only found it the payment had been declined when I happened to go online and check the order status, they made no attempt to contact me to tell me of this problem. When I phoned them up they attempted to run the payment through on the same card again and this time it worked - if they had bothered to try it twice there probably wouldn't have been any delay.

Generally speaking due to the sheer number of products they stock I use these guys a lot for work and relatively speaking the problems have been minimal.

Recently they stopped taking Switch as a valid payment method, this is something to do with combating online fraud. I can understand this as credit & debit card fraud is most annoying for all parties, however as other vendors are still accepting this method of payment I would have thought a company as big as Dabs could find a better way of combating the problem rather than simply stopping these payment types. Lastly Dabs also recently introduced a "surcharge" on online purchases which is just unbelievable, I don't know any other online vendor that has one. This surcharge is rather similar in price to delivery - maybe Dabs have realised that free delivery just isn't possible now and have decided to make the money back elsewhere?

Generally speaking Dabs are a great vendor and I've had no serious problems with them. I'd like to see this Surcharge scrapped and maybe for them to actually introduce delivery charges, most people expect to have to pay something. Switch payments need to be reintroduced, I have credit cards but not everybody does. A good vendor never the less.
