- Fog Lights
Some of you out there need to know what certain items on your
car are actually for.
Now all cars are equipped with read fog lights and more modern
cars also have front mounted ones.
As you should be able to tell from the name of these devices,
these lights are for use when the weather conditions are foggy -
the Highway
Code will tell you that once visibility reaches 100m then
fog lights should be used.
Let us also look at something else in the Highway Code that some
twats out there don't seem to know about:
"You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is
seriously reduced (see Rule 201) as they dazzle other road users
and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when
visibility improves."
Now to me this is pretty straight forward, if there is no fog
then you don't use your fog lights - simple enough?
Guess what front fog lights are not for?
They are not there so that you can look "cool" as you drive
around in your new car.
They should NOT be the thing you switch on after your main
headlight, they should remain in the "Off Position" for 90% of
your driving time because quite frankly we don't get that much
fog.
Here is the front of a car with just
headlights on. As you can see these
lights are nice and bright, you will be able to see where you
are going and other people will be able to see you coming.
Notice the front fog lights are switched off?
That would be because it is NOT foggy.
This particular driver is not a twat, he's not trying to look
cool.
 As
you can see from this picture the front fog lights are extremely
bright, they need to be so that they can penetrate the fog.
They are also aimed to the left, at the curb,
which is a rather important "landmark" to look for while driving
in the fog. However they still dazzle
oncoming traffic.
Don't be a twat - just leave them switched off until it is actually foggy.
Rear fog lights are as bad if not worse - I have
been stuck behind a driver for miles on end who has rear fog
lights on from a week ago when there was a little mist one
morning.
 
It is about time some of you out there realised
that you are not the only people on the roads.
There are other road users out there and your
selfish actions make life difficult for us all.
Bottom line - stop being a fucking twat, you're
impressing nobody with your front fog lights, all modern cars
have them so you really aren't special.
