Work
I left college after completing a BTEC in
Motor Vehicle Technology. This qualification would have been
enough to send me away to university, however I felt it was time
to go out into the big bad world and see if I could make a mark.
I'm not sure if I've left my mark yet but I've
had fun trying to do so. Sometimes I regret not going to
university, I think it would have been a very good experience.
However when I now look at where I am in the world of "work" I
don't regret my lack of university education too much.
After leaving college with my BTEC I really
expected to simply walk into a job as a car mechanic somewhere.
Alas every job I applied for I was soon told to "come back when
you have some experience" and this was all rather difficult if
nobody would give you a job without some experience, very much a
Catch22 or "Vicious Circle" situation.
I plan on giving any readers here a little
more information on my work, what I do now and what I've done in
the past. I will not use this as an opportunity to "name" people
I didn't like or didn't get on with. Not only would that be
childish it is not the kind of thing I would ever do.
I consider myself far too professional to "name
and shame" and the best you are going to get here is some of the
"funny antics" that we got up to in some of my previous jobs.
Nothing illegal I might add, just some "high
jinx" which maybe of interest to some people. In some cases I
may not say which company I was working for when certain things
happened, if only to protect the identity of the innocent - so
any "stories" may or may not be about the companies listed below.
Some of the jobs and companies I've worked for
in the past that I've truly enjoyed - certainly at the beginning
if not towards the end of my time with them:
Tesco - Stock Control Assistant
Evesham Micros UK - Computer Salesman
Evesham Micros UK - Technical Support
British Antactic Survey - Technical Support
WCMC - Technical Support/Helpdesk
Amino Communications - Systems Administrator
I've only really worked in one job where I
haven't enjoyed myself for the majority of the time. I wont
mention the company, I'm not even sure if they still exist, but
I think I had every right to be upset with the work and I only
lasted for seven days before I had to leave.
I joined this particular company as a
"Technical Support" person and I'm sorry but people who work in
technical support do not spend 90% of their time cold-calling
companies all over the region in the hope I can sell them
something. If I'd known that is what the job would have been all
about I'd never have taken it in the fist place!
