CIFI successfully achieved structuring and financing for the construction of a 10 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric plant located in the province of Tungurahua, in Cantón de Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador.
The construction of this plant was carried out in compliance with the highest social and environmental quality standards. During the construction stage, 202 jobs were created, of which almost 65% (132) corresponded to local labor. Additionally, social investment projects were developed in neighboring communities, such as: maintenance of alternate routes at El Triunfo parish, refurbishing of the Vizcaya soccer field, construction of an automotive bridge in the Porvenir sector, support for the construction of a field and parish house in the Llignay Sector, construction of a pedestrian bridge in the Ulba community, support for the improvement of a water sprinkler supply system in the Llignay community, allowing to improve their quality of life. Thanks to this new hydroelectric plant, 61GWh of renewable energy will be generated annually, avoiding more than 43 thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, which corresponds to emissions from non-renewable energy consumption of 5,000 homes for one year.
