These are green times, times of responsible investment
In the coming months, Corporación Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura (CIFI), is preparing to enter the capital market with the registration of a green bond issuance program for an aggregate amount of 200 million dollars. CIFI’s Executive Director, César Cañedo-Argüelles, indicated that “with this first issue of Panamanian green bonds through CIFI, we join the global trend for the financing of responsible and sustainable projects, offering investors the opportunity to participate in double impact projects, financial and environmental.”
Through almost 20 years of experience, CIFI has been a pioneer, with expertise in this investment trend, and a degree of specialization and knowledge of the Latin American market that allows it to participate in the financing of some 180 projects worth more than 1.5 billion dollars.
International investors are very optimistic about the growth of this type of green product in capital markets. According to a study by UBS’ Investor Watch, “at a global level, investors expect the proportion of sustainable investments to grow from 39% to 48% in the next five years, and a majority (58%) believe this will become the norm within a decade”. Additionally, the majority of investors expect that, in the long-term, sustainable investments will have a performance equivalent or superior to that of traditional investments”.
