Computing - Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard Review - Part 3

Conclusion

The Sitek Eclipse II keyboard is a great piece of equipment.

It is extremely well made and all of the small issues from the original Eclipse appear to have been solved with this version. One problem from the original keyboard we are unable to test at the present is the wear & tear on the key-caps. As with the original Eclipse this keyboard has laser-etched caps which we would have hoped would mean that the keys couldn't wear down. Unfortunately after some time some Eclipse users reported that the letters and/or characters had worn off their key-caps just as quickly as on cheaper keyboards that use stickers - we will have to wait and see if this issue has now been resolved.

I looked at this keyboard mainly from a comfort point of view. If I am going to be doing a lot of work in front of a keyboard I need one that will not make either my fingers or my wrists tired and I'm pleased to say this keyboard is perfect. It will not be to everyone's liking - the glowing features look nice for use at home (and are great in the dark) but maybe not appropriate in an office environment, thankfully the glow can be switched off. The smaller keys will take a little getting used to and some people will never get used to them and will possibly slate the keyboard purely on that issue, please don't let that put you off.

Also please do not allow the "looks" of the keyboard to put you off. Personally I think it is a very sleek looking keyboard and doesn't look out of place anywhere, others have already started calling it ugly. Keyboards are sold/bought on many factors, looks should not be one of these.
